A big issue during the HERO referendum were conservatives freaking out over the bathroom myth. It’s obvious trans* people are heavily discriminated against, so it only makes sense to stop fighting against that discrimination.

Well no, it doesn’t make any sense at all, but try telling that to TERFs.

we ask that organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Lambda Legal and media outlets such as The Advocate, Out, Huff Post Gay Voices, etc., stop representing the transgender community as we feel their ideology is not only completely different from that promoted by the LGB community (LGB is about sexual orientation, trans is about gender identity), but is ultimately regressive and actually hostile to the goals of women and gay men.

“Trans* ideology” is much like “Jewish” or “black” ideology, the only real difference is that more people recognize the latter two as bigotry. And what, pray tell, constitutes “regressive?”

The infringement of the rights of individuals, particularly women, to perform normal everyday activities in traditional safe spaces based on sex; this is most pernicious in the case of men claiming to be transgender demanding access to bathrooms, locker rooms, women’s shelters and other such spaces reserved for women.

Ah, respecting gender identity is “regressive.” Letting trans* people use public washrooms in peace is “regressive.” Note, too, that the only trans* people that exist are trans* women, in this TERF wonderland. Women wanting to bulk up and act like men, reinforcing patriarchal gender roles? My crack about TERFs being “lesbians squicking out over potential penis” is surprisingly accurate.

the harassment by the transgender community of prominent individuals ranging from iconic gay rights activist/drag queen RuPaul and legendary feminist Germaine Greer has been particularly loathsome.

Huh, so trans* people have been angry at Germaine “as rapists have always done” Greer and Ru “tranny shemale” Paul? Can’t imagine why.

The appropriation and re-writing of gay and lesbian history and culture, most notably attempting to re-cast the majority gay white men who participated in the Stonewall riots as transgender, specifically casting as “transgender” men who adopted feminine attire but still identified as men

No-one is denying that gays and lesbians played a major role in Stonewall; however, many people are denying that trans* people played any role. Also, the terminology of today isn’t the same as it was fifty years ago. A person who used the term “transvestite” back then may call themselves “transgender” now. Words can change, as can people.

we feel that the transgender ideology is not compatible with the rights of women, gay men and children and ask that the organizations and media outlets mentioned above disassociate themselves from the transgender movement

Mmm-hm. How’s that going for you?

Lambda Legal: It is unfortunate that we even need to respond to this divisive petition because we did not wish to draw more attention to it, but let us be clear: We reject the call to divide our movement and the wrong-headed reasons offered by those supporting this petition.

GLAAD stands firmly with the transgender community and unequivocally rejects the outrageous and destructive idea that the ‘T’ be removed from LGBT. For decades, transgender people have worked alongside lesbian, gay, and bisexual people to advance equality for everyone, often leading the way in the movement for full equality and acceptance. Many trans people are also lesbian, gay, and bisexual — they are an inextricable and invaluable part of the LGB community.

Human Rights Campaign: This is unequivocally wrong. The hate that killed Matthew Shepard killed Zella Ziona. The bullies at school aren’t just harassing the gay kids, they’re harassing the transgender kids. … This idea that we are somehow separate and apart is patently untrue. We are one movement, stronger in our unity. We are one community, period.

If TERFs are so desperate to distance themselves from trans* people, yet constitute  an isolated minority within radical feminism, maybe they should be the ones to leave?

[2015-11-20] Oh good gravy. There’s some pretty strong evidence the “gay man” behind the above petition is actually Cathy Brennan.

This latest Drop the T stunt potentially affects millions of gays and lesbians. Organizations many of us may need to use in the future, to keep our homes, our children or pass possessions on to our lovers after we depart may now be seriously compromised because lGbT orgs like GLAAD or Lambda Legal or the HRC may have put our needs at the bottom of their lists because our name is on some petition started so that one person could get bigger britches. This petition has painted gays and lesbians in an ugly light, hence the reason I suspect CB is now trying to distance herself as far and as fast from. This stunt can and will have REAL life consequences resulting in REAL life injury. Cathy Brennan isnt a feminist, isnt a lover of women or even lesbians, she likes them all about as much as she likes herself. This isnt me being dramafied, it is me being pissed off by a wolf in bo peeps clothing, using and abusing the very same flock she claims to be protecting.
